Clean Air Challenge in the news!
- Clean Air Challenge - 2007 Workshops In India
- August 2007
After three years of success in China, Enterprise for Education has made a debut in India! Special thanks must go to Agilent Technologies for providing the support needed to take the program international. On August 11, 2007, the Clean Air Challenge curriculum was presented to an enthusiastic cadre of 22 high school teachers of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The Fulbright Foundation was generous enough to allow us use of their very modern New Delhi facility. When the training had concluded, there was a wonderful dinner outside under the stars for both trainers and trainees, with guests from the American Consulate, Agilent Technologies, and the Fulbright Commission all attending. In December, Enterprise for Education hopes to gather feedback to evaluate the success of the classroom experiences of the trainees.
In addition to meeting the trainees, our two trainers, Ms Lee Boyes and Ms Susan Smith, were welcomed at the Amity International School of New Delhi. This large impressive brick building houses grades K-14, all under one roof. The students were delightful, and happily practiced their “Good morning, Ma’am” on us through the whole visit. Electives included traditional as well as western music, dance and art. There are even equestrian classes held in the afternoons! Even with no air conditioning, the school kept fairly cool with the help of thick brick walls and clever design. Each floor hosted a different age group of students, with the youngest on the ground floor and high school kids on the fourth floor. The principal, Madam Bharti Sharma, was a delightful host, and even served us an excellent tea in her office.
All in all, it was a delightful visit, made only more so by the excellent food and matchless friendliness of every Indian we had the pleasure to meet. We even got to spend a half day at the Taj Majal, which is unrivaled in its beauty under any meteorological circumstances. The white marble of the Taj Majal changes color with every change of light, from bright-sunlight white to sun-behind-a-cloud silver. You have a choice of bare feet or shoe covers. Hint: go for the bare feet! The smooth marble under your bare feet is like walking on silk.
